Casting Information for 2008 Season
Oregon Cabaret Theatre is a professional non-Equity theatre in Ashland, Oregon, just one block from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Our theatre is unique and elegant, housed in a beautifully renovated church with table-seating on tiered levels and balcony. 2008 is our 23rd season and we have built a reputation for producing top-quality shows with superb talent and high production values.
Salary is $1600-1700/month. Out-of-town actors receive $500/month housing stipend and $200 travel allowance. Some AEA Guest Artist contracts (tier 3) may be available.
Altar Boyz
Catholic boy band on a mission to save souls.

Rehearsals: Feb 20; Opens Mar 12; Closes June 1

Matthew – the dreamboat leader of the group; Mark – the sensitive one; Luke – the streetwise B-boy; Juan – the Latin hottie; Abraham – he’s Jewish.

All must be very strong singers (pop-contemp.) and dancers (hip-hop/contemp.)
archy and mehitabel
Cats, a cockroach, lightning bug and ladybugs; 50’s jazz score; Mel Brooks script.

Rehearsals: May 21; Opens June 11; Closes Aug 31

archy – cockroach poet; mehitabel – feline fatale; big bill tomcat – mehitabel’s tough beau; 3 female singer-dancers – play cats, ladybugs & broadway the lightning bug

All must be strong singer-dancer-actors comfortable in a jazz/Broadway style.
A Brief History of White Music
Mainstream white pop music (Beatles, etc) re-interpreted in a jazzy-soulful style.

Male – high bari; Woman 1 – soprano belt; Woman 2 – richer gospel/soul voice

All must be strong African-American singers and dancers.
Ali Baba
A wacky musical in the British Panto style; original score based on Scheherazade.

Rehearsals: Oct 22; Opens Nov 12; Closes Dec 31

Ali Baba – young hero on a quest (high bari); Scheherazade/Pearl – shapely young singer-dancer (sop-belt); Pasha Poobah/ Genie – evil villain/wry genie (bass-bari); Ruby Twankey – Brooklyn-born ex-hippie; played by male (tenor); Fish – a little British punk; Chip – tall British twit…together they play singing/dancing Camel

All must be great comic actors who sing and move very well.

to request an appointment or submit materials. Artistic Director Jim Giancarlo will be auditor.
Audition slots are 5 minutes total and should include a brief contemporary monologue and 2 contrasting songs (32 bars each). Gear your material toward the show(s) you are most interested in. Generally, songs from the show are OK. If dance is one of your strengths it’s a good idea to show that in your audition.
